Below are the nominees:
Kyison Garcia – Wrestling – Mountain Ridge HS
Layton Invitational Champion, Undefeated in the Wasatch Inter-mountain Duals, placed 7th at Reno Tournament of Champions. Undefeated in Utah, with his only losses coming from out of state. Currently ranked the #1 wrestler at 106 in 5A and across all classifications. Selected to the Utah All-star meet, held at UVU on January 14th.
Hyrum Housley – Swimming – Herriman HS
Hyrum is our Varsity Captain. He is a committed and dedicated athlete who is at every practice, works hard to help every swimmer achieve their best. He works out on his own as well, seeking to improve as much as he can.
Jacob Halsted – Wrestling – Jordan HS
Jacob has been a model of consistency for JHS Wrestling on the mat, in the classroom, and in the hallways. Jacob is a leader for his team on how to work and win while a friend to all those around him. Jacob won 6 bouts compared to only 1 loss at the Gallegos Invitational at Highland High School earlier this month.
Jacob won the Battle of the Brave at the 170 weight class on Jan 18.
Skyler Lyon – Swimming – Riverton HS
Skyler has not missed any practices in the 4 years she’s been on the team. She has won the swimmer of the meet almost every invitational we have had and she is currently ranked #1 in the state in her breaststroke race.
Sarah Janzen – Swimming – Riverton HS
She has been a huge team Asset this year. She’s there at every practice working hard until red in the face. She is always happy and uplifting to other team members. She’s an all around good swimmer and I would love to have a whole team full of Sarahs.
Alexis Shumway – Drill – Jordan HS
Lex has gone above and beyond as our head captain. She is able to balance all her responsibilities with the team along with working and keeping up with her school work-she has a 3.9 cumulative gpa. She has taken the time to get to know every teammate on a personal level and is always the first one to arrive to practice and usually the last one leaving due to helping others perfect their skills. We strongly believe we are placing where we are in 6A because of her leadership and dedication to our program and team.
